THE BAKU PHENOMENON

Description

Baku = eater of dreams

The concept of this piece is similar to: [link] , but with a twist. It's from the perspective those who believe art and creativity to be evil because of religious reasons. One of the reasons that Satan was banished from heaven was because he wanted to be, or have the same power as God. In my opinion, that's what the artist attempts as well, so that got me asking myself whether religion teaches us that being god-like in the sense of creativity is wrong.

This piece represents the person who believes it is wrong, and metaphorically eats peoples' creative dreams

Hope you like! Sorry it's been so long. >.<

This is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm so happy to see another piece from you!

First of all, this is very well executed. The vision behind this is lovely, and after reading your description I can see it quite clearly. Your idea was creative, as per usual, and smoothly translated into visual media.

Your technique is impeccable. I especially like the watercolor-esque background as compared to the more conventionally Copic coloring of her hair and eyes. The almost marbled jade effect isn't one I've seen you use before, and it's very successful. The headdress looks shiny and mildly metallic despite the soft coloring and really pops against the dimmer colors in the background. The gradients on the flowers and the colorful drops hanging from her headdress are also quite pretty.

There are only three issues that I've found with this piece. First of all, it appears just a little too symmetrical, and so really loses some impact due to that. Secondly, her skin seems a bit unfocused, as it's somewhat blurry and indistinct in parts. As you've used sharper and more traditional Copic coloring on her hair and eyes, it is a little disconcerting. Thirdly, the "dream" she's eating is too blank, and looks oddly unfinished. I think part of the reason, though, may be that you left the interior of her mouth white as well, and so it comes off a little unrefined, particularly in the context of that beautiful background.

Overall, this is a gorgeous piece (and it looks like you've experimented with new techniques?) and it's a lovely addition to your gallery.
